College Connection
Family to Family College Connection.
Questions about college?
The FAMILY TO FAMILY COLLEGE CONNECTION may be your answer.
WHAT IS IT? A PTO-sponsored group providing a free resource to OPRF families who are applying to or contemplating college. Families who have been through the college process and have students at college are available to answer questions.
HOW WILL IT WORK? A list of mentor families is available in the dean/counselor office or you can download it here. Interested families can contact the mentor family of their choice.
WHO CAN USE IT? Any OPRF family can call a mentor family and ask questions. We encourage you to ask any questions no matter how basic. You can ask about the college process or about the particular college the mentor family’s student attends.
THE IMPACT ON COLLEGE VISITS. Use the mentor list to see if an OPRF alumnus is attending a college you are considering. Contact the parents and ask permission to contact the student. The parents may be a wealth of information, but visiting with or talking to an OPRF graduate can provide unique insight. There is an instant commonality in coming from the same high school that can provide a relaxed atmosphere for asking questions.
I WANT TO VOLUNTEER. WHO CAN I CALL? Call Robin Soffer, 708-366-6568.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW? The dean/counselors are the experts in the college selection process providing informational sessions and expertise for our students. And clearly, if you have a specific question you should speak directly to the college admission office. But if you want a student’s perspective on life at a particular college or you need to talk with a parent who has lived through this process, call a mentor family.
