What will PTO be next year?

It's up to you. Will you step up to become a part of the Executive Board?

The formal by laws and position descriptions can be found on the this Site, click on About Us in the blue sidebar to access. In reality, the board is much more informal. We have discussed moving to a Leadership Committee of 6-8 to create and direct the activities. Janet Hanley will continue to be our Treasurer, Tee Moran has agreed to coordinate Communications, and Donna Villa will continue to be our Web Master. To fill out the Board Committee we need a Co-Chair(s), a Secretary, a Program Chair, a Liaison Co-Chair, and a Fundraising Coordinator.

This year's board has decided that the traditional Benefit dinner & auction fundraiser is no longer viable, income rarely exceeds expenses. We will continue with Directory and Calendar sales, voluntary dues, and expand Escrip with Dominicks. Also at the May meeting we voted to suspend Allocations for this year, in order to base our funding on assets we have in the bank rather than continue the unsound practice of raising money to meet our commitments. It was suggested that we have one meeting each quarter, a networking roundtable focussed on an individual grade or issue. There is an official role for PTO to fulfill the parent involvement component of the School Improvement Plan. Meeting the goals of the School Improvement Plan is mandatory to comply with No Child Left Behind, Teri Dixon will coordinate these activities. We will continue to improve upon the Liaison program and develop substantial links with the d ivisions and departments with in the school. There are opportunities for PTO representatives to sit on a variety of school administrative committees to express the parent perspective.

Without volunteer leadership, there will be no PTO 2008 - 2009. PTO is evolving and you can have a voice and create it's future role.

Please consider the benefits of being involved in PTO. You network with other parents and administrators, you learn what a student's day is like, you work with students... each of these connections builds your knowledge of the school. Through PTO you can share that knowledge and experience with other parents, make new friends, and become aware of different perspectives. The time commitment is as little as an hour or two a month, sometimes 1 -2 hours a week, or 2-3 days a week once every 3 months.

We have each been glad that we made the time to commit to PTO (over 25 years experience between us). We encourage you to do the same. It is only through involved families that we are able to enhance the high school experience for our students. We encourage you to contact any one of us for more information and to answer your questions.

Sincerely,
