PTO Minutes August 28, 2007
Attendance: Robin Soffer, Allen Green, Barb Nelson, Mary McCabe, Kimberly Werner, Donna Villa, Charmaine Cusick, Michelle Newman, Lisa Moss, Janet Hanley, Mary White, Teri Dixon, Joie Peirce, Susan Keating, Don Vogel, Maureen Grady, Deloris Collins, Cheryl Williams, Ulises and Tima Cardenas.
- 1. Introductions
- 3. New Conference sign up-Lana Gesselbracht
Lana showed us online process for registering for parent teacher conferences

- a. Will be open for about three weeks
- b. Will send mailing home to notify parents
- c. Plan to be available on October 9
- d. On the evening of October 9, Lana will be available in school to help parents do conference sign up
- 4. Faculty Senate Report- Maureen Grady Maureen introduced herself as the new faculty senate representative to the PTO. Maureen explained that the Faculty Senate represents the faculty and the group meets to discuss issues that affect students and faculty. Last week, Attila Weninger spoke with them and the faculty found this very helpful. The Faculty Senate also sends representatives to APPLE and the Boosters.
- 5. School Report-Don Vogel
- a. The class assemblies went well. Students were well behaved, and we had good feedback from students, especially women. Some of the female students asked to do separate meetings again. We also had a successful spirit assembly with a Hogwarts theme and real huskie dogs.
- b. This year the school had 32 students named National Merit Commended Scholars, 22 National Merit Semi-Finalists and 4 National Achievement Scholars.
- c. OPRF hosted the Huskie Invitational for field hockey. We received an email from a school in Pennsyvania thanking us for how their students were warmly welcomed.
- d. Thirteen of our students were inducted into the International Thespians.
e. OPRF is hosting 6 foreign exchange students this year.
f. The 8th grade transition nights postponed. A draft schedule for the new transition process is attached.
- 6. Treasurer’s Report-Janet Hanley
We have $14,831 in the bank. A detailed report was distributed.
7. The first “Link,” our newsletter has been mailed.
8. The PTO and APPLE are each hosting one presentation by Dr. Johnnie L. Early. Dr. Early will speak about the college application process. The presentations are Monday October 1 and Tuesday, October 2.
9. Theatre benefit-We are considering whether we have the parent resources to do this event. We will talk to Boosters to see if we can work together on a fund raiser.
10. The PTO still has open board positions. Kimberly has offered to fill the role of Citizen’s Council liaison.
11. Parents expressed an interest in having a program at every meeting
